The SAGE Acronym

Q.

Does SAGE stand for something?

A.

When SAGE first began as a community Bible study, we wanted to identify and define the areas of emphasis for our time together. From that brainstorm, the following acronym was born.

Supplication: defined as a humble request or prayer.
Philippians 4:6 - "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known unto God."

Application: defined as putting into effect of a principle.
Proverbs 22:17 - "Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach."

and Accountability: defined as the quality or state of being accountable (i.e. being bound to give an explanation).
Proverbs 27:17 - "As iron sharpens iron, so one man (woman) sharpens another."

Growth: defined as being cultivated.
Colossians 1:10 - "And we pray this so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God."

Encouragement: defined as the act of giving courage or confidence to another.
Romans 12:8 - "If it is encouraging, let him (her) encourage."

And of course, it's almost important to note that one of the definitions of the word sage is "a profoundly wise person." Our hope and prayer is that we are raising up a new generation of wise women, who understand the value of supplication, Biblical application, accountability, spiritual growth, and Christ-centered encouragement.
