Worried? Remember the Wildflowers

Worry is a waste of time, and unfortunately, it's one of the biggest emotions that gets in the way of my faith. It usually happens the same way. God calls me to do something unexpected, and I am excited about it at first, but later those nagging questions start to creep in. How am I going to come up with that much money? What if I don't know anyone? What if I am not equipped to do this? So then I question myself and wonder if God will follow through and provide all that I need if I follow Him. I start to doubt and lose sight of what matters most.

I once read an online devotion about wildflowers that really put my heart at rest concerning my feelings of worry.

One peculiar quote said, "If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers - most of which are never even seen - don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?"

One reason this quote really caught my attention and put peace in my heart is because I remember playing in this field next to my house as a little girl, and in the summertime, the field was full of wildflowers all displayed in a variety of beautiful colors. Not many people live next to fields full of wildflowers, so the saying is true. These beautiful flowers are hardly ever seen, yet they are still attended to by our Creator. After reading this devotion, I decided that if Father gives such attention to these flowers that go unnoticed, then of course He will provide for me and do His best for me because I am His beloved. And you are His beloved, too, and we matter more to Him than a field full of wildflowers.

Once I realized this, it was easy to let faith continue guiding me on the path Father had laid out. None of the pesky questions mattered anymore because I knew that if God called me to it, He would prepare me and get me through it. I knew He would provide whatever was needed to have His will done in my life, and it didn't even matter if I knew anyone who was along on the same path as me because Christ is always with me. And He is definitely one Person that I will always know wherever I go.

Worry is a feeling that can easily take precedence over our faith and lead us astray if we turn our eyes from the Son, but faith is a guiding light leading us to our Father's best. So next time worry tries to cloud your faith, just remember the wildflowers, and that you're worth far more than they are.
