2010 February 01 As part of our Girls United focus this month, we're unpacking the concept of "Supplication: Changing the World One Prayer at a Time." Supplication - that's one of those SAT words, right? Dictionaries define it as "a humble entreaty, petition, or prayer." A great definition for what we're aiming for this month...to be girls who humbly engage the God of the universe in a supernatural conversation. Throughout February, we'll be bringing you tips, blogs, articles, and resources to help you develop a powerful prayer life. But before we can do that, we have to first come to a place where we understand the sheer magnitude of this spiritual discipline within our life. Prayer is powerful...like tsunami caliber power. Not only does it have the ability to transform the condition of our soul, but it also has the power to radically impact this world we're backpacking through. In James 5:16b (NLT), it says, "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." So why is prayer so powerful? Well, here's what famous 19th century preacher E.M. Bounds had to say,
Through prayer, we have access to the full arsenal of God's power. We have but to ask. But somewhere in the midst of our crazy lives, we forget His promises and fail to ask. So what would happen if all of us Jesus girls got together and started approaching God with what I like to call a "Big Ask." What if we started asking God to blow our spiritual minds with an earth-shattering display of His power? What if we started asking Him to show up big and do something we think is completely impossible? (Just in case you didn't know, impossible is not even in God's vocabulary.) You see, Ephesians 3:20 tells us that He is "able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us..." I believe He can do amazing, mind-blowing things, so it's time for us to get on our knees and send up a "Big Ask" prayer to the One with the power to deliver.
