Snakes and Stones

While I'm relatively new to this whole parenting thing, I am smart enough not to hand my son a snake...ever. While some of that has to do with my personal fear of the slithery things, most of my hesitation would stem from concerns for my son's safety.

Likewise, I don't hand my son a bag full of rocks come snack time. Besides the obvious choking hazards, I try to make sure he gets to eat things that actually taste good, and I'm fairly certain that rocks wouldn't make the Food Network's greatest ingredients list.

Thankfully, our Father in Heaven has been doing this parenting thing for a long time, and His Son has something great to say about His Dad's views on snakes and stones.

Matthew 7:9-11 says, "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!"

Our God is a loving Father, and He longs to give His children good gifts. Translation: no snakes or stones will be dropped on your doorstep as an answer to your prayers. So align yourself with His will and start asking your Father to lavish His goodness on you.
